The Student Academy Awards (SAA) recognizes and honors student filmmakers who demonstrate excellence in the creation of motion pictures. By awarding these outstanding achievements, the Academy strives to support and inspire emerging filmmakers and to foster growth and education in the art and science of motion pictures.

Amount: $3,000 (multiple winners)
About the opportunity: Students can apply for one of two tracks. The scholarship award is open to college-bound student poets of color currently enrolled in the 12th grade in a California High School. Three poets will be awarded $3,000 each in scholarship money. Scholarships will be awarded based on the quality of the poems submitted, and on the ways in which applicants’ essays and materials speak to Amanda’s commitment to social change through poetry.

About the opportunity: GrubStreet’s Teaching Fellowship for Black Writers provides financial and professional development support to two self-identified Black writers interested in teaching classes, participating in events, and working with our instructors and staff to deepen our curriculum. The fellowship includes compensation of $25,000, artistic mentorship, a showcase of the Fellows’ work, and access to the GrubStreet community and the Muse and the Marketplace conference.

About the opportunity: COLORFUL is free to enter for BIPOC creatives who meet the qualifications of entering Young Guns — 30 years of age and under with at least two years of professional experience under their belts — but haven't yet won Young Guns. But COLORFUL doesn’t just prepare creative professionals for a chance at Young Guns glory; top winners also receive cash grants to put towards their own personal passion projects. Use it for post-production on a short film, to upgrade your hardware, or even to help cover rent while you pursue your creative dreams. It’s all up to you!
